Our two spacious turf-roofed lodges offer warm, welcoming and stylish luxury accommodation for 2-4 guests. Set high on one of the highest hillsides on the rugged and romantic Oa peninsula on Islay the distinctive buildings sit in harmony with the landscape and the exquisite curves of the dry stone exterior walls are a testament to the traditional skills of Argyll craftsmen.
Once inside, wide , ceiling high galleried windows fill the interestingly shaped living space with light and afford long and everchanging views over moorland and coast. Looking out over the RSPB Oa reserve, Coillabus offers extraordinary bird and wildlife viewing in all weathers. Our resident chough family delight guests with regular flap pasts and the pair of golden eagles bring their young to hunt here.
The lodges are matched in design and decor and each commands a distinctive view. A'Mhoine Bheag looks over Glenastle Lochs and the Atlantic towards Orsay and the Rhinns of Islay Lighthouse. An Cnocan Dubh has a view over the sea to Kintyre look to the left for the Big Strand and to the right on a good day you get a glimpse of Ireland.
We welcome well-behaved dogs- usually to our An Cnocan Dubh Lodge with its flat grassed area. Please do let us know if you would like to bring your dog and we will send you our dog policy.
Each spacious lodge sleeps 2-4 guests in two ensuite bedrooms and has its own Helo Finnolme sauna. You’ll enjoy complete privacy here as each dwelling is set out of sight and sound of the other in its own secluded space. On the other hand they are close enough to make Coillabus an ideal base for a family or friends getaway when both lodges are booked together.
Furnished in contemporary Scottish eco-chic the light-filled living space has heated Caithness slab floors, a bespoke curved sofa, comfy armchairs and a wood burning stove.
Blonde Ercol vintage pieces sit well with hand tailored blinds, curtains, cushions and throws in our specially designed Islay tweed to make comfortable, stylish rooms. And should you ever be able to avert your gaze from the long, amazing and everchanging views from the full height gallery window, you can enjoy original landscapes from Scottish artist Rosanne Barr's Lands of Escape series.
Our nearest pubs and restaurants are just a ten minute drive away but many of our guests love the freedom and time of holiday cooking and enjoy summoning up a feast from local ingredients in the fully-equipped kitchen area. You’ll find serious Stellar pots and pans, an electric range cooker with ceramic hob, American style fridge freezer as well as a dishwasher and microwave.
We're delighted to work with a local family business who will deliver fabulous seafood platters to your lodge.
Our popular dine in experience where you can book our award winning chef for a special night in has had to be suspended due to Covid and Brexit issues.
Satellite LED TV, free Wifi broadband and an i Pod docking station are provided.
You'll find yourself in a haven of comfort and style at Coillabus, and parties of 2 to 4 guests can expect a sleeping experience to match the quality and comfort of the best five star hotels.
You’ll find stylish accommodation in two king or twin bedrooms (one bedroom has twin or zip link options) and each has a fully tiled ensuite bathroom with double ended bath, heated Caithness slab floor, and a walk-in Hans Grohe Raindance shower.
The oak floored bedrooms have ultra comfy Hypnos beds made up with fair trade organic percale cotton – the kind with that luxurious crackle – light spun wool duvets, and top quality goose down pillows.
Curtains and blinds in our own tweed from the Islay Woollen mill together with landscapes from Glasgow based artist, Rosanne Barr, lend a touch of contemporary Scottish chic to the interestingly shaped bedrooms.
